Live flashdrive?

Post by Grogg »

Hi all,

I've probably missed it somewhere, somehow, could be my failing sight or mind, anyway...

Are the iso releases at the git site 'live' iso's? Will it be 'persistent' on the flashdrive? If I'm installing the iso from my Slackware linux, should I just use plain ol' 'dd' or do something else?

I'd really, really like to get my hands on a BSD that has a DE already ready to use when I boot into the drive so I don't have to have a 30 page book sitting on the desk in front of me trying to figure out how to install a GUI, etc. Thus this FuryBSD looks promising to me, but is still a little lacking in 'directions' (I know there's another word I'm wanting to use but that's the one that came up...told ya, the mind).

The reason I'd like to get involved with BSD, is because I'm getting really tired of that shitware systemd crap and everything involved with it. I'm an audiophile and I've been using Linux in general since 2000 and Slackware since 10.1 if I remember right. But even Slackware I fear in the latest when it comes out, will have gone to that utterly useless garbage of pulseaudio, also, Plasma is eyecandy and nice, but it gives me *less* control than I would like on *MY* system...the *reason* I started using Linux.

Anyway, sorry for the storybook read. If anyone still remembers what this post is a bout, I'd sure be grateful for some pointers.

The "Live iso" can be flashed to a USB drive very easily. I use etcher, get it at

https://www.balena.io/etcher/

Just follow the on screen directions and you will be up and running in no time.

I hope that this helps.

USB flash drive persistence is on the roadmap:

https://www.furybsd.org/manifesto/

This will give you a better idea of what the installer looks like:

https://github.com/furybsd/furybsd-hand ... ng-FuryBSD

As of right now it's simply a try before you install environment. Any changes which you make will get committed to the install, as long as you make them before running the installer. The handbook will be expanding in terms of post installation tasks very soon so keep an eye on it for changes, and additions over the coming months.

Fantastic! This looks really promising then. Thanks for the answers.

Thanks too to the guys involved in starting and making this work. You're good people.
